New research has found that astrology is useful in finding a mate.
The study looked at 1,000 people across Australia and New Zealand and found that people who have an interest in astrology were more likely to have been monogamous.
“When I first started studying astrology, I was intrigued by the idea that we might be able to use astrology to find our mate, to help us find someone who is a good match for our interests,” Dr Helen Brown, a lecturer in psychology at the University of Adelaide, said.
“It may be that our sexual partners are just one of many different factors we use to determine how attractive we are.”
“But then we also see people who use astrologers to find partners who are not interested in them, and that may be because they are in a monogamous relationship or they have a partner who is not interested,” Dr Brown said.
Dr Brown said the research was conducted in the US, but there is some evidence it can be applied to other countries.
“One study found that women in the UK are more likely than women in other parts of the world to use a combination of their astrological and other personality traits to determine their romantic partner,” she said.”[But] there’s some evidence that this can be done in other countries as well, for example the UK has a survey that asked people to use their astrology and other psychological traits to find someone.”
“It’s certainly one of the areas where we’re seeing some interesting results and we’ll be looking at how it could be applied in the future,” Dr Campbell said.
The research was funded by the Wellcome Trust, and the study was published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
